keep the mystery

you mare up the psyche,
you flatten it,
you wash out the strange peaks and mounds.
you jam the theory down your throat, you eat it
and it leavens all the unknown
into the insanity of normalcy.

when you can explain it all,
there is no mystery,
for yourself,
or anyone else,
and who really cares about that.

like knowing the killer at the start of a crime novel,
you’ve ruined it for yourself already,
and anyone else who might have thought to read it.
